We came to the conclusion that aside from the first chapter needing to come first, the book is fairly modular. It won’t be hard for faculty to move chapters around to create the sequence they prefer.
While the class is focused on one section of the text at a time, individual students may find it helpful to jump around and use content as it is timely. You won’t see it in this outline, but the team decided to regularly add marginal notes to students that direct them to other sections of the book that go into key terms in more depth so that if they are ready to learn more about personal agency or goal-setting or whatever, they will have signposts pointing them toward that information even before the course schedule gets there.
This is not the final shape of the textbook. The content and organization of chapters and chapter sections will continue to shift as drafting begins, and feedback from students and faculty in 2018-19 will help us revise the book further. For the time being, however, this is the Development Team’s best guess about what the book needs to do and how best it can do its job for FYE105 students and faculty.
